Terms of Service
The terms that apply to professional services provided by GeneHome.
These Terms of Service apply to professional services provided by GeneHome, operated by Genehome Biosciences Co., Ltd. By placing an order or confirming a quotation, the client agrees to the terms below.
1. Service Scope
GeneHome provides professional language, manuscript, scientific, technical, and publication-related support for researchers and academic professionals, primarily in medicine, clinical research, biomedical science, and the life sciences.
The specific scope of each service is determined by the service selected by the client and, where applicable, the quotation or written agreement confirmed before work begins. Recommendations or comments provided outside the agreed scope are intended as professional guidance and do not automatically form part of the contracted service.
If additional work is required beyond the original scope, GeneHome will communicate this to the client before proceeding with work that may involve additional fees or a revised delivery schedule. Current service descriptions are available on our Services page.
2. Client and GeneHome Responsibilities
Clients should ensure that they have the right to provide GeneHome with all manuscripts, data, figures, supplementary materials, and other files submitted for service.
Authors retain responsibility for the underlying research, scientific decisions, authorship, required disclosures, permissions, and final approval of the manuscript before submission or publication.
GeneHome is responsible for providing the agreed services with appropriate professional care and in accordance with the confirmed scope of work. Depending on the service selected, this may include improving language and presentation, reviewing scientific or technical aspects of the manuscript, identifying potential inconsistencies or areas requiring attention, and providing recommendations based on relevant academic and publishing standards.
GeneHome's recommendations are intended to support, rather than replace, the author's scientific judgment.
3. Confidentiality
GeneHome recognizes that manuscripts and research materials may contain unpublished, confidential, or commercially sensitive information.
Materials provided by clients will be handled only for delivering the requested services and related service administration. GeneHome will take reasonable measures to protect client materials from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.
Access to client materials will be limited to personnel or qualified professionals involved in providing or administering the relevant service. More detailed information is provided in our Privacy Policy.
4. Fees and Payment
Service fees are determined according to the service requested, the scope and complexity of the work, manuscript length, required turnaround time, and other relevant project requirements.
Where a quotation is provided, the quoted fee applies to the scope described in that quotation. Any material change to the manuscript or requested service after confirmation may require a revised quotation.
Applicable fees, payment arrangements, and additional charges will be communicated before the relevant work is undertaken. GeneHome will not introduce additional charges outside the agreed scope without informing the client in advance.
5. Delivery and Revisions
GeneHome will make reasonable efforts to deliver completed work within the timeframe confirmed with the client.
Delivery times may be affected if additional information, clarification, files, or author decisions are required. Where a significant delay is anticipated, GeneHome will inform the client as soon as reasonably practicable.
Revision support, where included in the selected service, applies to revisions reasonably related to the original manuscript and agreed scope. Substantial new content, new analyses, extensive restructuring, or changes outside the original scope may be treated as additional work.
Specific revision arrangements may vary by service and will be stated on the relevant service page or quotation where applicable.
6. Cancellation and Refunds
Clients may request cancellation by contacting GeneHome.
The availability and amount of any refund will depend on the status of the order and the amount of work already completed when the cancellation request is received.
Where work has not yet commenced, eligible payments may be refunded in accordance with the applicable cancellation and refund arrangement. Where work has commenced, GeneHome may retain an amount reasonably corresponding to work already performed and non-recoverable costs incurred.
If GeneHome is unable to provide an agreed service, the client will be offered an appropriate remedy, which may include rescheduling, an alternative service arrangement, or a full or partial refund, depending on the circumstances.
7. Publication Outcomes
GeneHome's services are designed to improve the clarity, quality, technical presentation, and submission readiness of scholarly work within the selected service scope.
Peer review, editorial evaluation, acceptance, revision, and publication decisions are made independently by journals, publishers, editors, and reviewers and may depend on factors beyond any professional manuscript-support service.
GeneHome provides professional support for preparing and communicating research but does not control or determine publication outcomes.
8. Intellectual Property
Clients retain their rights in manuscripts, research data, figures, tables, and other original materials submitted to GeneHome. Providing materials for professional services does not transfer ownership of the client's research or scholarly work to GeneHome.
Edits, comments, recommendations, and other service outputs are intended for the client's use in connection with the relevant manuscript or research project. Where third-party materials are included, the client remains responsible for obtaining required permissions.
9. Limitation of Liability
GeneHome aims to provide services with appropriate professional care and to deliver work consistent with the agreed scope.
Academic manuscripts and publication processes involve scientific judgment, author decisions, editorial discretion, peer review, and factors outside GeneHome's control. GeneHome cannot be responsible for outcomes resulting from decisions or actions of journals, publishers, reviewers, institutions, or other third parties.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, GeneHome's liability arising directly from a particular service will be limited to losses reasonably attributable to GeneHome's failure to provide that service as agreed. GeneHome will not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses arising from circumstances beyond the reasonable scope of the service. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
10. Governing Law and Contact
These Terms and the provision of GeneHome services are governed by the laws applicable to Genehome Biosciences Co., Ltd., subject to mandatory rights or protections that may apply to the client under applicable law.
If a question or concern arises regarding an order or these Terms, clients are encouraged to contact GeneHome first so the matter can be reviewed and, where possible, resolved promptly.
